Virat Kohli press conference: Sunil Gavaskar asked Sourav Ganguly about the lack of difference in statements following Virat Kohli’s comments.
Virat Kohli’s latest press conference has certainly sparked a lot of controversy in the Indian cricket scene. Virat was recently dropped from being the captain of the ODI India team ahead of the South Africa tour. After T20Is, Rohit Sharma is now the captain of ODIs.
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said that he asked Virat not to leave the T20I captaincy. He also told Virat that his ODI captaincy could also be questioned if he stepped down as T20I captain. However, Virat has denied all those claims. Kohli said he was informed just 90 minutes before the call to sack him as ODI captain. He left the T20Is captaincy before the T20 World Cup.
“I was contacted an hour and a half before the selection meeting on the 8th [December] for the Test series [vs South Africa]. There hasn’t been any prior communication with me since I announced the T20I captaincy decision until December 8, where I got the call before the selection meeting,” said Virat.
Virat Kohli’s press conference: Sunil Gavaskar opened up about the fight
Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has now opened up about the incident. He believes Ganguly “should be asked” about the discrepancy in the statements.
“I think it (Kohli’s comment) really doesn’t put the BCCI in the picture,” said Gavaskar.
“Yes he is [Sourav] is the chairman of BCCI and he should certainly be asked why there is such a difference”.
“He’s probably the best person to ask about the difference between what you seem to have to say and what the India captain has said.”

Gavaskar also stressed that there must be a “clear line of communication” between the players, the management and the fans.
“It is always helpful to have a clear line of communication so there is no speculation,” says Sunil.
“Sometimes, even if it’s not necessary, a press release is good enough. A good press release lays out all the reasons why life is so much easier.”
Virat Kohli has confirmed that he will play the ODI series, while Rohit Sharma will miss the test series due to injury.
