Six accused after alleged victim was rescued by police

Six men have been charged after they allegedly kidnapped another man for ransom and held him for five days at a house in western Sydney, where he was repeatedly assaulted.

Tactical Police forced entry into the Belmore residence around 5.15pm Tuesday and freed the 26-year-old man, who was allegedly abducted from his own home in Smithfield by a group of gunmen and forced into a vehicle.

Police were alerted shortly after the alleged kidnapping around 5.30am Thursday and Strike Force Kkuoa was set up with detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crimes Unit, assisted by Fairfield Police.

NSW Police said responders acted on an intelligence basis to identify the flat and conduct an operation to free him. The man was examined at the scene by emergency workers and taken to the hospital, where his condition remained stable.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at the home while three others, all in their 20s, were staying elsewhere in Belmore before being taken to Campsie Police Station.

They were charged with a range of offenses including aggravated burglary and trespassing, taking/detaining society with intent to extort ransom resulting in actual bodily harm, demanding property with threats with intent to steal, participating in a criminal organization and aggravated bodily harm a person on purpose.
