Joakim Noah calls Shaq, Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Jason ‘White Chocolate’ Williams his all-time favorite characters starting at 5.
Kids who grew up watching basketball in the 1990s and 2000s will always have a favorable position for that era. Violations may not be effective. Deadly tackles, in addition to tactical fouls, were more common then than they are today.
The best guardians of the day had little space to operate, while the skills of the big men were enhanced. Despite all of this, the sheer amount of talent in the NBA is such that it has an immeasurable following.
The likes of Steph, LeBron, Jokic and Giannis have wowed crowds with their skill and athleticism these days. This same role has been taken by Big Diesel Shaq and ‘Frobe’ Kobe on the Lakers, Dirk with the Mavs and Vince Carter with the Raptors, among others.
One of the other blacktop legends that millions of kids around the world try to copy is Jason Williams.

The former Kings point guard had a flair for passing barely a screen saver even during today’s transition. His handle is a beautiful thing, and when his shirt gets wet, the White Chocolate is mere amusement.
“Shaq, Dirk, Kobe, Michael Jordan, and White Chocolate!”: Joakim Noah’s All Time Favorites Starting at 5
Joakim Noah seems to have grown up on a 2006 NBA champion’s heavy diet with the Heat. Given that he was born in the late 80s, Noah’s childhood was probably spent idolizing Michael Jordan, Kobe and the like.
This was reflected when Darius Miles asked him to name his all-time favorite game starting on the 5th. Joakim had been a guest on the Knuckleheads Podcast at the time. This was one of the closing questions, and like the rest of the interview, Noah gave a wonderfully authentic answer:
“I have Shaq. Then I’ll go with Dirk, because now you’ve got tension and then you’ve got a big man in it? Boy! And then I have MJ on one wing, I have Kobe on the other. Who is running it? You know, we’ve got the White Chocolate bring it up! ”

It’s hard to explain to a young person today how iconic White Chocolate really is. His draw as a flashy player is truly comparable to today’s Kyries and Stephs. Honestly, I still like Jason Williams wearing the Jordan 14s and killing it before most other floor champions at the time. Not to win a game, but definitely a player I’d love to see.
