She’s still the one! Shania Twain received a standing ovation while accepting one of the biggest honors at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday, December 6th.

The “That Don’t Impress Me Much” singer was honored with the Music Icon Award while attending the fan-voted event in Santa Monica, California.

“Oh my god. This is such a privilege and a dream. Thank you for presenting me with this award and for highlighting that my work is making a significant impact,” she said. “I’m not sure if that’s right, but I feel like it’s always my desire to inspire people with my music.”

That Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration star continued, “I always miss my mom right now at these moments in my life. My fans, my friends, my team, you’re the ones who really fill this space – you’re here with me. You have made me feel loved and special throughout my work life and I will always be grateful for that.”

Twain ended her speech by telling her fans to “get excited” and stand together. “Embrace your individuality and your crazy ideas. Just be brave. Remember, there is power in numbers. We are connected. Love is love,” she added. “And if a door slams in your face… just run and jump to that door and kick it down. All I have to say is be the queen of you.”

The honor also marked Twain’s return to the PCAs stage for the first time since 2005, when she was named Favorite Country Female Singer. The Canadian musician previously announced that she would be singing “Waking Up Dreaming,” which is taken from her forthcoming sixth studio album. queen of mewhich falls in February.

Twain kicked off her medley with “Any Man of Mine” and “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” pausing only for a quick change of clothes. She displayed her signature cowgirl style throughout the performance, including wearing leather.

“Okay, so you are Ryan Reynolds … that doesn’t impress me particularly,” she sang the 46-year-old Dead Pool the star’s name instead of her usual reputation Brad Pitt. The fellow Canadian star playfully replied, “Who, me?” from the audience.

Twain wowed fans with clips from “Waking Up Dreaming” and her biggest hit “Man! I feel like a woman.” The audience was on their feet from start to finish.

“I’m so incredibly honored to be named a music icon,” the “Forever and Always” singer said of her 2022 PCA moment in a press release in October. “I have some of the biggest fans in the world. They have supported me since the beginning and it is their love and passion that drives me.”

Twain added, “I’m thrilled to get back on the road and bring them my new music and fan favorites, and what better way to start than with the People’s Choice Awards!”

The man! The I Feel Like a Woman singer announced in October that she will be taking her music as part of her to approximately 50 concert venues across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom Queen of Me tour.

The first show is scheduled for April 28th in Spokane, Washington. Twain brings other female powerhouses with him Kelsea Ballerini, Lindsay Ell, Haley Whitters, Mickey Guyton, Priscilla block and Robyn Ottolini at different stages of the tour. Breland will also be an opener.

“I feel very comfortable in my own skin these days – and I think this album reflects that musically,” Twain wrote via Instagram at the time. “Life is short and I want to be sublime, colourful, uncompromising and empowered. I want to send a clear message, especially as a woman, to always remind me of my power and I hope the songs are a reminder of the same power within you!”

The five-time Grammy winner has been committed to empowering female singers and songwriters throughout her career — which is evident in her tour opener line-up.
