Sergio Aguero guessed Manchester City’s new signing Erling Haaland for success at Etihad.

Earlier this month it was confirmed Haaland would join City from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51million this summer.

The Norwegian is being hailed as the missing piece of the puzzle for Pep Guardiola’s team to win the Champions League after the club secured their fourth Premier League title in five years.

Aguero, City’s all-time top scorer, believes his old side will still struggle to win Europe’s top competition but reckons Haaland will be a Premier League hit.

Speaking to as a global ambassador, he said: “I think it’s a great signing. He can help score and that’s big. I hope he scores a lot of goals. Adjusting to the Premier League will take time for him but I’m confident he can do it.

“Regarding the Champions League – this is a huge task now. But football is about the team, not the players themselves.

“If the whole team works like it has been, the trophy will be more achievable. I think City have gained experience over the past few years and that’s something that can be achieved sooner rather than later.’

In recent years, Haaland has emerged as one of Europe’s most promising players and was pursued by Real Madrid before agreeing to join Etihad.

In 89 games for Dortmund, the 21-year-old has scored 86 goals, 29 of them last season alone.

Meanwhile, he won the Bundesliga Player of the Season award in 2021 and was the Champions League’s top scorer last year.

Since leaving Agüero City, Guardiola has often played without an orthodox centre-forward, with the Spaniard still unconvinced by Gabriel Jesus.

But the Manchester giants now expect Haaland to lead the line for the next decade.

Guardiola said: “It’s a decision for the club to bode well for the future. Hopefully he can come for many, many years and I’m pretty sure he will fit in perfectly with our team.’

While Haaland has established himself as one of Europe’s top scorers, he may struggle to adapt to the Premier League, much like Romelu Lukaku did at Chelsea, according to former Liverpool star Vladimir Smicer.

He told BoyleSports: “It looks like Man City will be even stronger with Haaland but I thought the same thing when Lukaku came to Chelsea.

“In the end it didn’t happen so we’ll see how he settles down in City. It’s a different league, pressure and style so we’ll see, but I still believe Liverpool are going from strength to strength and will be fighting for the title next season.
