Semicon India 2022 attracts semiconductor leaders from around the world: MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar

In order to position India as a leader in electronics manufacturing, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) is organizing the Semicon India 2022 Conference from April 29th to May 1st, 2022 in Bengaluru. The conference will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under the motto “Design and Manufacture in India, for the World: Making India a “Semiconductor Nation”. Industry leaders such as Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO Micron, Cadence CEO Anirudh Devgan, Vinod Dham, Founder, Indo-US Venture Partner and many others are expected to attend the conference. The ministry is also expected to sign several memoranda of understanding during the three-day conference to forge partnerships and alliances in the semiconductor space.

Minister of State MEITY, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said the prime minister’s vision is to make India a significant player in the global semiconductor value chain. Rapid, decisive progress has been made in this area for the first time in 75 years, he added. “The Semicon India 2022 conference will attract the best minds from around the world from the semiconductor industry, research and academia and will be a major step towards realizing PM’s vision of making India a global hub for electronics manufacturing and the semiconductor industry,” said he in a statement.

This conference serves as the first entry in the series of roadshows that MEITY will organize. Global experts from industry and academia involved in the design and manufacture of semiconductors, as well as key government officials are proposed to attend the event, the ministry’s statement said.

The India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has been established as an independent business unit within Digital India Corporation with administrative and financial autonomy to formulate and drive India’s long-term strategies for semiconductor and display manufacturing facility development and the semiconductor design ecosystem. ISM is to be led by global experts in the semiconductor and display industry and act as the central agency for the efficient, coherent and smooth implementation of the programs.
