Sean Bean said he’s “a romantic” and has no regrets from his five marriages and said he’d “live it all over again.”

The Game of Thrones star, 63, has made it a habit to get married over the years but was recently in a gaming mood to talk about it ahead of his appearance on new BBC drama Marriage.

In the upcoming show, written by Bafta-winner Stefan Golaszewski, Bean portrays Ian, with Nicola Walker on-screen as his 30-year-old wife Emma.

And yes, the irony does not escape the actor.

“I’ve obviously seen more marriages than most people,” he agreed in a new interview.

“I suppose there’s that romance in me, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it anymore. But I have no regrets. I would experience it all again.’

Speaking to The Times, Sean also pointed out that his relationships got more exposure because he’s had five wives in 40 years instead of five girlfriends.

The actor argued that “it’s not like I’ve been galloping around.”

“I suppose I could have seen how things were going, could have gotten to know them better before taking the plunge,” he told the publication. “But I didn’t do it because I really care about all these women, otherwise I wouldn’t have married them.”

The Lord of the Rings star first married his childhood sweetheart, hairdresser Debra James, in 1981, aged just 21.

They were married for eight years before divorcing in 1988, and in 1990 Sean married Bread and Coronation Street star Melanie Hill, whom he met while studying at RADA.

They had two daughters together, Lorna and Molly, before separating and divorcing in 1997.

The actor’s third wife was fellow Sharpe, Abigail Cruttenden, to whom the couple was married for three years and welcomed daughter Evie together in 1998.

Sean’s fourth time down the aisle was with Georgina Sutcliffe in 2008 after they met a bar in 2003, but the marriage only lasted two years and their relationship was pretty tumultuous.

More recently, he appears to have settled down with fifth wife, American Ashley Moore, after they wed in 2017.

Bean also insisted that every time he got married, he felt like it would be “forever,” saying, “It’s not something to take lightly, is it? It’s not frivolous or trivial. It’s a huge commitment.”

That doesn’t mean the star is past a little self-reflection, however.

He added, “Looking back myself, I’m like, ‘Damn, that’s quite a lot of marriages there’.
