Schools across the UK were forced to close today after heavy snowfall.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings across the country for snow and ice, while drivers have been warned of treacherous conditions on the roads.
One of the biggest impacts bad weather can have is school closures, leaving parents with last-minute alternative plans to make.
While everyone loved a snow day at school, closures can disrupt work and force changes in childcare schedules.
The easiest way to check for school closures is to search your local authority’s website.
However, your school’s website and social media may also be able to provide you with up-to-date information.
When will it be decided to close schools?
The decision about When schools close usually depends on the inside temperature as well as how dangerous the location is, since lots of snow and ice can pose a risk of injury.
Gov.uk states: “Schools must follow the same indoor temperature health and safety laws as other workplaces.”
There is currently no legal minimum or maximum, although the lowest recommended temperature (for non-physical work) is 16°C.
