Samsung accused of making its phones SLOWER as angry fans warn shoppers ‘You don’t get what you paid for’

SAMSUNG has been accused of throttling the performance of more than 10,000 apps running on its latest smartphone.

The Galaxy S22 range is reportedly making apps like Strava, LinkedIn and Microsoft Office run slower due to an apparent bug.

According to multiple reports, the culprit is Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS), a built-in app designed to boost gaming performance.

The company says GOS helps eliminate performance issues like lag and overheating while gaming.

In addition, it limits the performance of some gaming apps by inhibiting the device’s powerful processors.

However, to Koreas Business newspaper Mail and a number of user reports online, GOS throttles apps it shouldn’t.

The software – which is also found in a number of previous Samsung smartphone ranges – is activated when a gaming app is launched.

Twitter user @GaryeonHan pointed out that the list of apps that qualify as “games” is long and includes many unrelated to games.

He shared online a screenshot of that list that Samsung fans allegedly found after sifting through the code of the Android operating system that runs on Samsung’s phones.

Curious participants are Microsoft Office and YouTube Vanced.

“Samsung has set performance limits for more than 10,000 apps that we use in our daily lives, not just for gaming,” @GaryeonHan tweeted.

He added that GOS appears to activate even when it’s not required, such as when a device’s temperature is within a reasonable range.

Samsung fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration, with one pointing out that buyers of the £770 Galaxy S22 weren’t getting the performance they paid for.

They joked, “So you bought a Galaxy S22 that claims to have the best hardware, and yet…games don’t really play as they should.”

“The problem isn’t poor chipset performance. The problem is Samsung’s GOS (Games Optimization Service) throttling CPU and GPU performance.”

Samsung is said to be investigating the issue and is expected to release an official statement in the coming days.
