Salve Regina University student killed in crash in New Hampshire on Thanksgiving – Boston News, Weather, Sports

NEWPORT, RI (WHDH) — A Salve Regina University student was killed in a car accident in New Hampshire Thursday morning, police said.

According to the New Hampshire State Police, a 22-year-old man was driving Drew Ceppetelli and four others when he went off the road and the car rolled over several times. The accident resulted in Ceppetelli’s death at the age of 21. The other five occupants of the car were taken to area hospitals.

On Saturday, Ceppetelli’s best friends and roommates took time to speak in her memory.

“She was the kind of friend everyone deserves,” said Mady Whittaker.

Ceppetelli was the star of the softball team, studied Healthcare Administration and turned 22 in a few weeks. Her congregation at the University of Newport, Rhode Island mourns the loss.

“I would do anything to have another moment with her,” Whittaker said. “It was she who brought the house to life.”

“She was really unique,” said Alexis Coutu. “I’ve never had a girlfriend like her.”

Her friends said Ceppetelli was a dedicated softball player who always put the team first.

“She went to bed early every night because she always had to get up at 6 a.m.,” Coutu said, “and she loved going there. She never complained. She loved it.”

In a statement, the school’s head softball coach wrote, “The Salve Regina University softball team is heartbroken at the loss of our teammate and sister, Drew. She was truly one of a kind and lit up every room she walked into. She was our backbone, an incredible leader, teammate and friend.”

“I am deeply saddened to learn that Drew Ceppetelli ’23 passed away early yesterday, November 24, early Thanksgiving,” said Kelli Armstrong, the university’s president, in a statement sent Friday morning. “Drew was a beloved member of the Salve Regina community.”

A gofundme was launched in Drew’s name, with proceeds going to “something Drew makes us smile about.”
