Piers Morgan led to celebrity reactions to Russian president Vladimir Putin ‘shameful’ when he ordered the invasion of Ukraine in the early hours of the morning.

Targets across Ukraine have been hit by missile attacks, including in the capital Kyiv, and there are reports that several cities have fallen to Russian forces.

Hundreds of people are believed to have been killed following an all-out attack on military targets and critical infrastructure.

Many woke up to the news of the attack on Thursday morning, with former Good Morning Britain host Piers condemning Putin’s actions.

“This is an act of war by a bully thug who doesn’t think the rest of the world has the courage or will to stop him,” he wrote in one post. ‘Shameful.’

In a separate tweet, he added: ‘Putin is doing this because last time he skipped it in Crimea. And if he leaves it again in Ukraine, he will continue to invade other countries until the Soviet Union is restored.

‘The world must unite to stop this ruthless dictator – before it’s too late.’

Serious Come Dancing team judge Motsi Mabuse wrote: ‘This can’t happen!!!!!!!!!!!’

In another post, she shared an image of the Ukrainian flag: ‘Prayers for Ukraine and the World!!!’

Nicola Adams, who performed in Serious’s first same-sex co-production in 2020, said: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Ukraine 🙏🏾.’

Military in Ukraine

Putin announced the move in a televised address early Thursday morning, saying the move was a response to threats from Ukraine.

He said Russia had no goal of occupying Ukraine, but that the responsibility for the bloodshed lay with the Ukrainian ‘regime’.

The leader also warned other countries that any attempt to interfere in Russia’s actions would lead to “consequences they have never seen before”.

Putin accused the United States and its allies of ignoring Russia’s demands to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and provide security guarantees to Moscow.

He said Russia’s military operation was aimed at ensuring the ‘demilitarization’ of Ukraine, adding that all Ukrainian servicemen who had laid down their weapons would be able to safely leave the combat zone.

Explosions could be heard in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv shortly after Putin’s speech, while explosions were also reported in the cities of Odesa and Kharkiv.
