Portland, Oregon. • Rudy Gobert had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz beat the Portland Trail Blazers 120-105 on Wednesday night when star Donovan Mitchell suffered a backache.

Damian Lillard and Norman Powell of Portland, each scored 32 points. The Trail Blazers were seven players short of the NBA’s COVID-19 health and safety protocol for the second straight game.

Utah’s dominance began within and continued all night long, overtaking Portland 74-30 in the paint.

Utah’s Hassan Whiteside had 15 points and 11 rebounds as a substitute, while reserve striker Rudy Gay scored 21 points.

Powell was a key factor in keeping the Blazers close, scoring 25 out of 32 points in the first half. Powell’s 25 points marked the Blazer’s top half this season, but the outside shot wasn’t enough to overtake Utah’s success around the basket.

Lillard’s three-pointer gave Utah a 76-70 lead with a 7:32 score remaining in the third half, the closest game against Portland since the first half.

A 3-pointer from Portland’s Tony Snell at halftime cut Utah’s score to 69-59 after the Jazz took a 16-goal lead in the first half.

When Utah took a 111-91 lead with 4:59 of the game left, Lillard was called up for a technical foul. He was then replaced for the rest of the game.

Jazz: Commonly known for his scoring ability, Jazz keeper Jordan Clarkson has averaged over 5 assists per game in Utah’s last 3 games, which his coach believes that it was a response to the external struggles for the reigning NBA’s sixth of the year title. “I think the biggest thing for Jordan is that he doesn’t shoot the ball as well as he has. That’s what happens when you’re a good shooter and you can’t help but ask, is he really trying to throw himself into other parts of the game. ”

Trail Blazers: With starting center Jusuf Nurkic and reserve big man Cody Zeller among the seven Portland players in the protocols, the Blazers added some size by signing a 10-day deal with 6-foot-8 tall Reggie Perry . “He plays a little bit and has experience. It wouldn’t be new for him to play in an NBA game,” said Blazers rights coach Scott Brooks. “He’s a pretty constructive guy. I think he’s going to help us in that category and he’s going to help us because Larry (Nance Jr.) is the only big man we have. Perry had four points and three rebounds in 14 minutes.
