Roy Keane reckons Tottenham have the best chance of any team to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool are top of the Premier League this season while he has written off the chances of his former club Manchester United.

Keane had just watched Liverpool beat City 3-1 in the Community Shield in a fun contest at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

The Irishman reckons it will be those two sides who finish in the top two spots in the Premier League again this season and see them as clearly the best teams in the country, although he gives Spurs the best chance of giving them a fight to get her money.

“I look around the Premier League and Tottenham are the only team who think they can get into the mix this season but Liverpool and City are in a class of their own,” Keane told ITV.

“We saw again what they are about in this game. The passing and movement was top notch and although Klopp said they weren’t at their best I thought this was a great game between two outstanding teams.

“They’re going to be one and two again in the Premier League this season and it’s just a matter of the order they’re going to be in.”

Not many would expect Manchester United to stage a title challenge this season and Keane certainly isn’t as Erik ten Hag’s side are a long way off at this point.

“Spurs may be their closest this year, but Manchester United? I just don’t see it. I hope they prove me wrong, but they don’t look good enough for me,” he said.

“It was a good day for Liverpool. A new striker [Darwin Nunez]good habits to get into winning, other teams might be watching and thinking will these teams slack off?

“Not with Pep and Klopp at the top, the hunger and desire of both teams. Klopp got a big smile, looks refreshed, got a new contract – good luck stopping these teams.
