Inter Milan have submitted a second offer for the signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has reportedly been loaned out after his first was turned down.
The Italian club have been embroiled in talks with Chelsea over a possible seasonal deal for the Belgium international and have made no secret of their desire to return to Serie A.
Chelsea are ready to accept a €10m (£8.5m) loan fee plus surcharges – but Inter’s initial offer of €5m (£4.3m) fell short of that valuation – and they have now €7m (£6m) on offer. according to the Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Lukaku returned to Chelsea last August for a club-record £97.5million but his second spell at Stamford Bridge didn’t work out – as he only scored eight Premier League goals in 2021-22.
Chelsea appear desperate to sack Lukaku and have even explored the possibility of swapping players with Inter so he can secure a permanent deal.
The Blues were interested in signing Lautaro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries, Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni from the San Siro but Inter were uninterested in letting them go.
The 27-year-old, who has won 77 caps for England and was a starring role at Euro 2020, has just one year left on his contract at City and is desperate for a new challenge ahead of this year’s World Cup.
While not technically a forward, Sterling could be seen as a sort of Lukaku replacement as Thomas Tuchel could opt to bring him in and play him wide in a front three, while Kai Havertz takes a more central role as a false nine.
Chelsea have also reportedly entered the race to sign Everton striker Richarlison ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham.
