Poland national team coach Czeslaw Michniewicz has announced that he wants Robert Lewandowski to move to Liverpool after his departure Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski had previously announced his intention to leave Bayern after a staggering eight years at the German giants, where he has won countless trophies including eight straight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Poland’s UEFA Nations League game against Wales, the 33-year-old said: “What we know for sure at the moment is that my era at Bayern Munich is over.

“I see no possibility of continuing my career at this club based on what we have been able to see over the past few weeks. Bayern are a serious club so I hope they don’t keep me just because they can.’

Lewandowski has attracted interest from Chelsea and Barcelona but Bayern are keen to hold on to their star striker, who has one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena, and reportedly turned down a €25m offer for the Pole La Liga despite the player agreeing personal terms with the Catalan club.

But when asked about the transfer saga at the same press conference, Michniewicz threw another team’s name in the ring, saying: “I’d love to see Lewandowski at Liverpool as I’m a supporter of the club.”

A move to Anfield cannot be ruled out as Lewandowski knows coach Jürgen Klopp very well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund, where they won two league titles and reached the Champions League final in 2013.

Back then they were beaten by Bayern of all people and a year later Lewandowski made a free transfer to Munich where he scored 344 goals in 375 games, although he and Klopp enjoy a good relationship.

Klopp could well be on the hunt for a new striker this summer as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah enter the final year of their Liverpool contracts, with the former reportedly eyeing a move to Bayern to sign the Senegalese star.
