Rivaldo tells Richarlison he made a mistake in Arsenal transfer decision | Soccer

The Everton striker played a key role in helping the Merseyside club suffer the ignominy of being relegated to the Championship last season and has achieved cult hero status among Goodison Park supporters.

Despite his strong allegiance to Everton, the 25-year-old is eyeing a move in the transfer window and wants to play for a top European club.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest but Richarlison would prefer to remain in the Premier League, although he is said to have ruled out Arsenal because they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, Rivaldo believes this is a mistake as he would be a likely starter at Emirates Stadium, which in turn would boost his chances of Brazil’s World Cup squad.

The Betfair ambassador said: “This could be a big summer for Richarlison and his compatriot Edu, Arsenal’s technical director, could be crucial in a potential move to the Gunners.

“He is expected to leave Everton as several big clubs are interested and Arsenal appear to be a good option for the striker.

“The Gunners have Edu as their director and having worked with Tite until 2019, the former Arsenal midfielder knows Richarlison very well from the Brazil national team.

“After a tough season at Everton in which he was instrumental in saving the club from relegation, it could be important for Richarlison to join a club struggling at the top of the Premier League.

“If he takes a big step, he has a better chance of becoming a first-choice striker for Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar.”
