Rishi Sunak is fined for not wearing his seat belt

It is his second fine after paying a fixed fine as Chancellor during the Partygate scandal.

Lancashire Police confirmed the news tonight.

In a statement, the force said: “You will know that there is video circulating on social media showing a person not wearing a seat belt as a passenger in a moving car in Lancashire.

“Following consideration of this matter, we issued a conditional offer of a fixed sentence to a 42-year-old man from London today (Friday 20 January).”

The Tory leader apologized after his “error of judgment” was discovered in an Instagram video promoting his equalization of funding in the region.

Fines of up to £500 can be imposed for not wearing a seat belt when one is available.

Commenting on the seatbelt incident yesterday, a Downing Street spokesman said yesterday that the Prime Minister “fully accepts that this was a mistake and apologizes”.

“The PM believes everyone should wear a seat belt,” he added.

“It was a misjudgment, he removed it for a short time to shoot a clip you saw but he accepts that was a mistake.”

There are some exceptions to not wearing a seat belt, including when a car is used for police, fire and rescue services, and for certified medical purposes.

Downing Street said it does not believe there is an exception for traveling in a ministerial car.
