Rishi Sunak has been criticized for taking a private flight from London to Cornwall – despite attending a press conference in the South West just a day before.

Downing Street confirmed the Prime Minister and his wife Akshata Murty flew on a plane to a family center in St Austell at 9am on Thursday morning.

But the prime minister had been in the area the previous day and attended a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Lulworth Camp in Dorset.

The couple met to talk about Ukrainian military personnel being trained in the UK at an event that lasted until after 6pm.

Lulworth Camp is approximately a three hour drive from St Austell.

But No10 said Mr Sunak had opted not to stay overnight in south-west England, but to travel back to London by helicopter.

The Prime Minister is believed to have returned to Downing Street to attend a series of late-night meetings.

When asked how Mr Sunak had traveled to Cornwall, his spokesman said: “He flew down this morning. I can’t tell how he’s coming back.’

The incident is the latest in a series of travel blunders by Mr Sunak that have led to allegations of hypocrisy over the UK’s reduction in carbon emissions.

Last month he flew across England in 28 minutes to fly from Blackpool to Darlington – although he had already made a 41-minute journey from London to the holiday resort of Lancashire earlier that morning.

Labor accused Mr Sunak of “jetting around the country like an A-list celebrity with taxpayers’ money” and of “ridiculing” his environmental strategy.

He previously used a 14-seat RAF aircraft to launch two new freeports in Scotland.

On January 9, he took a taxpayer-funded 48-minute flight to Leeds to announce a charity there.

He was also embarrassed after being spotted in the back seat of his luxury car not wearing a seat belt.

The Prime Minister has been fined £100 by the Met Police for the misdeed and has apologized.
