Ric Wilson, Chromeo and A-Trak reunite for ‘Pay It No Mind’

Ric Wilson sets the tone for 2023 at the star of the video with “Pay It No Mind,” the debut single by Wilson, Chromeo and A-Trak, out today, February 22nd.
Directed by Bob, the Pay It No Mind visual begins with Wilson confidently strutting into a live drawing class and stripping down to be her nude model. “Footwork through all the bullsh*t,” he sings over a bouncing, shimmering beat. “And just keep glowing while they hope you ruin
Wilson, too, slides seamlessly into a buttery flow and raps, “Dribble like I play for the Raptors / Can’t nobody else dunk faster.” (Hopefully his hometown Chicago Bulls won’t take offense that he checked the Toronto Raptors by name.)
According to a press release, “Pay It No Mind” was written and recorded in California during the pandemic, after A-Trak “was introduced to Wilson’s music via Wilson’s own manager, which resulted in A-Trak sharing 1 of The with his brother Dave.” Canadian radio group Chromeo.”
It continues, “In the first of many inspired sessions, the crew also discussed everything from socialism and communism to popular movements and oral career histories.”
And based on Chromeo and Wilson’s Instagram posts, we’ll be hearing more from those sessions.
Wilson thanked “funk lordz” Chromeo and “A-Trak the GOAT” for their contribution to “Pay It No Mind,” before teasing, “We’ve got more coming soon too.” He included in the Instagram caption that the title the song was inspired by Marsha “Pay It No Mind” Johnson” and “is a song about holding on to your own drum and not letting bystanders, critics, and haters influence you.” Your happiness, your goals, and your quest for liberation .”
Chromeo went one step further and more or less confirmed that they are either working on an album for Wilson or have finished it.
“We bonded with Ric during the pando and hit it off, so we were like ‘Ric, we’re about to make an album for you!'” Chromeo wrote. “We don’t produce much for other artists and we especially love to lend our sound to someone who just shows up to amplify their talent and message. It has to feel personal. PLUS if they have the guts to strip naked in their video you have to respect that.”
