Erika Jayne is back in the spotlight. For many months the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Star shied away from public interviews. Now, however, the 50-year-old is ready to share her side of the story.
After Erika left her husband Tom Girardi In 2020, the once prominent lawyer was accused of embezzling funds from his former clients. Erika is also named in the lawsuits against him.
In conversation with Michael Rapport At The Wendy Williams Showthe moderator asked how it was to film RHOBH during their legal troubles.
“It was the darkest hour of my life,” she said, “but I signed a contract, and I had a commitment, and I had to show up for it, and I had nothing to hide, so I wasn’t going to run, so when everyone said.” : ‘You’re not going to show up, you’re not going to show up,’ I said, ‘Yes, I will.’”
She continued, “When things like this happen to you, you really find out who you are at your core, but more importantly, you find out who your friends are.”
Erika explained, “There were days when I really couldn’t keep it down, but … it was up to me to pull myself out of the hole, and I had to do that.”
Then the pop singer revealed that she receives death threats, which are “scary” because she doesn’t know which threats are real and which are harmless.
“And I live in an area [where] Lots of people know where I live, so you know there’s some people knocking on my door…
Host Michael was shocked by Erika’s announcement and asked if they were men, women or children. “That’s all,” she replied. “[They ask] ‘Is Erika here?’ and you know that I hide behind the curtains.”
Michael asked Erika to explain the difference between civil and criminal cases.
“[I’m dealing with] Civil matters, not criminal matters,” she said. “It’s as simple as that: civil means civil liability, penalty, money. Criminal means you go to jail.” She shared that her cases are “ongoing. Such is the law—long and arduous.”
Michael asked if the cases had changed her perspective on what matters (after being involved in all the glitz and glamor). She replied: “It was fun, and then, you know … Life really, yeah, it changed me at my core. I think it changes the way I look at people, the way I look at the world. I have a lot more empathy and understanding for those who are really fighting for themselves.”
“You’re put in a situation where you really have your back against the wall, it’s a tough place. So when I see someone who’s really struggling or something, I always try to shake hands and say, ‘Are you okay? I understand.”
“There’s light at the end of the tunnel,” Erika said of her current struggles. “Those things will be resolved, but again, it takes time… Today, unlike a year ago, I’m in a much better place.”
Regarding her divorce from Tom, Erika explained, “He’s calling, you know, and Tom is living in a memory care facility. He’s got dementia, Alzheimer’s, so I got up early and said, ‘Hey, we’ve got changes here’, but everyone blew me away, and he blew me away and there’s only so much I can do.”
She added: “So here we are. He calls and I take his call and it’s usually five or ten seconds and sometimes he thinks I’m someone else… It’s hard I think because there’s so much embezzlement and all these bad things Forget that I was married to this man for 20 years, so it’s hard to just sever that chord, like the emotional chord… There’s still that human element. It was really sad for everyone.”
The star is back together now but Erika won’t be using dating apps due to her fear of strangers. “I need to know someone who knows someone,” she explained.
Erika also gave an update on her friend Dorit Kemsleywho was robbed at gunpoint in her home. “She’s doing really well, despite everything that’s happened. I mean, she’s really strong mentally, but stuff like that can really bring you down. It’s just two men coming, or two or three…pointing a gun at her. The other says, ‘Kill her, kill her, kill her. Where are our things? Where are our things’, and that’s hard. She’s in therapy, she’s doing everything she can to go beyond that.”
“It was awful. I mean I remember the day I got the call that morning because it happened at night and I was in my kitchen just sweaty from the gym and I threw everything down and I just climbed into my car and drove to her house as we all did because that was our friend and her husband was out of town and how could we help.”
Erika then explained why she recently threw Garcelle Beauvais‘ Book in the bin: ‘When [Garcelle] said, ‘Erika, I don’t have to make you look bad, you can do it yourself’, ok, she took this piece and posted it on Instagram to promote her book, ‘You know how else you make yourself look bad can’t buy my book’ and I was like, ‘Oh, let’s do that, ok, throw it in the trash.'”
“Look, if they swing first, you have to swing back,” Erika said. “I never cause trouble, but I won’t let you, you know.”
Erika doesn’t agree either Sutton Stracke‘s insensitive remarks after Dorit’s burglary. “I know we’re doing a television show and we’re doing it under the guise of entertainment, but here’s the reality: Dorit could have lost her life, and so could those kids, so don’t tell me, ‘Oh, I did just got tangled up in it’… [Sutton]I’m 50, I’m 50. We’re not kids, we know what comes out of our mouths.”
She ended the interview by saying, “Crime is real … and you have to be sensitive to people who are victims of a crime, you know, a violent crime.”
Although Erika is still facing lawsuits, her name was dismissed from one of the lawsuits in January.
Her lawyer at the time said so page six“I’d like to see [the plaintiff] and everyone else is taking the path forward and not making allegations against Erika without evidence.”
