Revesby Shooting: Solving Gangland Murders “Not an Hour CSI Program”: Karen Webb

Solving a gang murder doesn’t follow an hour’s script CSINSW-style crime TV show Karen Webb said, adding that the “unfortunate reality” is that the cases piling up in the Sydney suburbs are complex and take time.

It’s the first time Webb has commented since gunmen killed two women in the backseat of a car parked in a residential area of Panania on Saturday night, bringing the number of suspected gang killings in Sydney to seven this year – nearly each a death month on average.

So far, arrests have been made in connection with one of those alleged murders: that of Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmed. Two men, now on trial, were arrested in June and July and charged with aiding and abetting murder. Whoever fired the fatal shots remains at large.

Asked Thursday whether NSW police are losing the war on gang violence, Webb said she “wouldn’t call it a war” but “every day there are almost 18,000 cops out on the streets protecting our communities” from violence in his various forms, including sexual abuse and domestic violence.

As for organized crime, she said, it’s “very complex [and] motivated by money”.

“This is not CSI one-hour program. These are complex and take time,” she said.
