Residents next to a giant “poo pipe” say they were woken up by trash washing down

Residents have trouble sleeping due to the sound of trash being flushed down a nearby “poop pipe.”
The structure appeared in the Wendelburie Rise development in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire in November.
It was built so close to the houses – just a few meters – due to a leak in the underground sewage system.
Anglian Water gave locals food baskets as an apology for the inconvenience and they were assured that the new line would only be temporary.
The company estimated work would be complete in March, but residents fear they will be living outdoors with the “poo pipe” through the summer.
Well-fed locals say they are awakened by the sound of poop being washed away at night, while others brand it an “eyesore.”
Firefighter Craig Rollason, 32, lives across the street from the pipe with his wife Katie, 30, and their newborn son Harris.
He said: “Due to the freezing weather over the last month we have now been warned it may not be dismantled until May or June.
“Before the work started there was a really bad smell which was due to the damaged pipe.
“We were glad it got sorted out, but it’s been like this for a while now.
“The pipe is a real eyesore and a hazard for us when crossing the street because you have to step onto the street and cars can hit it pretty quickly.
“It can be pretty scary crossing the street with a newborn baby.”
Tim Buckley, 31, and his girlfriend Beth South, 27, have also been affected by the whistle.
The couple say they can hear sewage running through a pipe outside their kitchen window.
Tim, a digital marketing coordinator, said: “You can hear water and waste being flushed around the line. It’s not particularly pleasant to hear when you’re trying to relax in the evenings.
“The pipe completely blocks our view from the house. We understand why it was put up, but we’re fed up with it now.’
Another resident added, “It would be nice not to be woken up by the sounds of human sewage rushing past your front door.”
Repairing the underground pipe is a “complex” process, according to Anglian Water.
Despite this, the company is confident that repairs will be completed by the end of next month.
A spokesman said: “Our teams are continuing to work on the damaged sewer pipe in Ise Valley in Wellingborough.
“The technical solution to repair the pipe is complex due to its location and depth underground.
“We plan to rehabilitate the existing line using a method called sewer relining.
“The innovative technology means we will apply a new robust liner to the inside of the pipe, essentially a ‘pipe within a pipe’, allowing us to minimize further disruption to local residents and ensure the integrity of the pipes for years to come.
“We have been in close contact with all local residents throughout and know that this work has been very disruptive to them – we are sorry.
“We would like to thank them for their continued patience and understanding – preserving their assets and protecting the environment is our top priority.”
