Regular customer is a creep but gives good tips

DEAR HARRIETTE: One of my regulars at work is a bit creepy, but he gives me good tips.

Harriette Cole

He comes every Wednesday and requests me as his server every time. He refuses to have another waiter in the restaurant. He has told the other waiters that he always asks me to because he has a crush on me.

This man is an elderly gentleman, and he’s usually respectful enough, but he doesn’t stop asking me personal questions and making flirtatious remarks while I’m just trying to do my job.

The only reason I continue to accept him as a regular is because he tips well and I need the money. Shall I continue to serve this man?

Need the cash

LOVE NEED THE CASH: You work in the service industry, which requires you to be friendly and cordial with guests. As long as this man doesn’t cross the line to make you feel insecure or hurt in any way, you should be able to serve him safely.

You don’t have to answer all of his questions. One way to avoid the barrage of questions is to hand them back to him.

When he starts asking the questions, turn it back on him. Ask him to tell you about his life. Has he ever been married? Does he have kids? What kind of work does he have or do? Where does he come from? Regular customer is a creep but gives good tips
