Reece Dinsdale will return Coronation Street, but this time he will play a very different role.

The actor, who portrayed Joe McIntyre, will direct upcoming episodes of the ITV soap opera.

“Really starting #Corrie tomorrow,” Reece said on Twitter Monday (April 25).

‘A real grown-up meeting with the script team over in Manchester. Back there for the first time in twelve years!

“Both nervous and excited. Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

How exciting!

Reece played the hapless Joe, the father of Michelle Keegan’s character Tina McIntyre, between 2008 and 2010.

Joe experienced his death as part of a storyline in which the character attempted to fake his own death in order to claim the insurance money.

However, the plan did not work out as he had hoped.

Gail (Helen Worth) desperately tried to stop him from getting on the boat and even jumped in because she knew he wouldn’t set sail with her.

However, Joe managed to get Gail off the boat and subsequently set sail, much to Gail’s dismay.

Tragedy struck shortly after when he eventually drowned.

Reece, on the other hand, burst onto our screens last year when he joined the cast of Emmerdale as the villainous Paul Ashdale.

Paul was the abusive father of mainstay Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson), and he eventually died on his wedding day with Mandy (Lisa Riley) when the barn where the ceremony was to take place caught fire.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
