Ray Parlor told it Real Madrid enter a transfer battle with Chelsea this summer to sign Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

The 27-year-old Englishman was a regular starter for Pep Guardiola’s side, scoring 17 goals in 47 games last season.

However, he has just one year left on his contract and has been linked with a move from the Etihad, with reports suggesting Chelsea were interested in signing him.

Parlor, the former Arsenal midfielder, believes Sterling would be a “great” addition to Real Madrid, who are buoyant after winning La Liga and the Champions League last season.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “I can see that some players are thinking about trying a different league, a different culture – I wouldn’t trust Raheem to think about it.

“He’s got a year left on his contract and amazingly I thought Raheem must be around 30 by now – but he’s only 27!

“He’s in the prime of his life and career and doesn’t play regularly because Man City have so many good players.

“Well, yeah, what a move. Antonio Rudiger is going there too, Real Madrid are really strengthening now and Raheem Sterling would be a great signing for them.

With Vinicius Junior doing well on the left wing for Real Madrid, Sterling’s arrival has the potential to stunt the young Brazilian’s development.

However, manager Carlo Ancelotti found it difficult to resist the City man as Sterling had become one of Europe’s finest wingers.

Since signing for City in 2014, he has made 339 appearances for the Manchester giants and scored 131 goals.

He has now won four Premier League titles and five domestic trophies at the Etihad.

Earlier this year, Guardiola commented on how important Sterling is to his team after working with the striker for six years.

He said: “No one doubts how important it is. What I want is (day by day) to play well. Not just him, but all players. If we count the number of games he’s played since we’ve been together, it’s a lot. He’s a key player.’
