Kylian Mbappe’s decision to stay at Paris Saint-Germain and not move Real Madrid have left a salty taste in many in the Spanish capital, including Guti.

It seemed like Mbappe would move from Paris to Madrid this summer once his contract with PSG expired, apparently making his desire for the move clear since he had been pushing for the transfer a year ago.

However, there was an unexpected turn of events as the 23-year-old decided instead to sign a new deal at PSG and keep him at the club until 2025.

Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema wasn’t impressed, nor was Real Madrid legend Guti, who was keen to throw some shade at Mbappe.

The 45-year-old, who has made over 500 appearances for Real, has dismissed claims that Mbappe is currently the best player in the world and questioned his past performances in the game.

“He’s the best player in the world? It has yet to be proven. Not at the moment,” Guti told El Chiringuito. “How long has he been in Paris? How many Champions Leagues have they won? How many Ballon d’Or? He’s so famous that it looks like he’s the best player in the world, but he’s not.

“He is the footballer with the most projections. He hasn’t won either the Ballon d’Or or the Champions League.’

Despite ruffling feathers at the Santiago Bernabeu, Mbappe is not giving up hope of a future move, possibly when his new contract with PSG expires.

‘[The chance of moving to Real Madrid is] never over, never over,” Mbappe told the BBC. “The only thing is that I have now signed a contract for three more years. You never know what may happen in the future. I give up thinking about the future, I only think about the present and the present is that I have signed a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain for three more years.

“I spoke to the President of Real Madrid because I have a lot of respect for him and the club. I think it was important to say in person that I wasn’t going. To be a great player [you have] And to be honest everything was great and good because we have a good relationship.
