The 22-year-old Frenchman has become a Ligue 1 mainstay with 50 appearances last season.
He has previously been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea.
However, according to The Athletic, Real Madrid and Monaco have agreed a deal and are completing the paperwork before announcing his move to the Spanish capital.
The report goes on to say that Tchouameni only recently decided to move to the Bernabeu.
His decision will be a blow to Manchester United and Chelsea who are looking for a central midfielder to strengthen their teams ahead of next season.
Tchouameni’s rise has made him a regular in the France national team, having played ten games in the last two years.
Meanwhile, he’s also been included in Ligue 1’s Team of the Year for the last two seasons.
Both United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in Declan Rice but with West Ham demanding over £100m Tchouameni seemed a viable alternative.
United will most likely turn their attention to Frenkie de Jong but recent reports suggest the Dutchman would rather stay at Barcelona.
Last month, the Spanish side’s manager hinted that De Jong could be sold due to the club’s lack of funds.
Xavi said: “He’s a fundamental player but then there’s the club’s financial situation.”
