READ, MASS. (WHDH) – The Reading Memorial High School track on Friday was dedicated to longtime track coach, former teacher and Vietnam veteran Hal Croft.

Addressing those gathered at the ceremony, the city’s most decorated Marine spoke about his time in Vietnam and the importance of providing services to veterans upon their return home.

As well as being the school’s English teacher for more than 30 years, Croft was also the school’s boys’ career coach and led the team to 29 unbeaten seasons.

The ceremony also included the dedication of a new memorial to Vietnam Veterans, honoring those from the city who served in the conflict – including 7 graduates who were killed.
