Ronaldo scored the 59th hat-trick of his career in United’s 3-2 win over Tottenham on Saturday, while Fred got an assist and continued to cause problems for Spurs.
With Bruno Fernandes out due to illness, Fred performed in the middle of the park and his performance didn’t go unnoticed by his manager.
“He’s probably the best ball winner along with Scott McTominay,” Rangnick said.
‘The best player when the other team has the ball, but he also showed in some counterattacks and switching moments today that he can also play, how many balls he gave and an assist. It was also one of his best games since I’ve been here.’
But the evening belonged to Ronaldo, who has scored 807 career goals for club and country and is now the FIFA-recognized all-time top scorer, surpassing Josef Bican’s 805 goals.
“That was his best performance today, at least since I arrived. He was good in training on Thursday and that’s why I decided to use him. Fantastic performance from him, but also from the rest of the team,” said Rangnick.
‘He can do it [get 70,000 people off their feet], but again he can only do it with the team. A fantastic achievement. It wasn’t just the three goals today, he was part of the team when they had the ball.
“It was probably our best performance considering the quality of the opponents. It was necessary, we had to win the game and it will give us a boost for our next game.’
