Rain and Snow Reports, Dry Friday – Boston News, Weather, Sports

7Weather- It was a wet and fairly mild start to the day! Areas south and east of 495 peaked in the mid/high 50s and that was around 3am. It was a decent soaker overnight too. It rained just over 2″ in some locations on the South Coast and Cape. The city of Boston recorded 1.04″, so let’s add that to January’s rain bucket surplus. Today is also our 6th 50 degree day of the month which helps raise our overall average temperature this month.

We spent most of January with rain and snow as opposed to dry weather. Just five dry days, tomorrow will mark us with another gray square (see below). With all the rain and snowmelt we’ve experienced over the past few months, this has led to flooding issues this week. A flood warning is running for the Taunton River near Bridgewater this evening through Sunday morning. Minor flooding is expected as the river reaches high tide tonight, peaks at 8.5ft tomorrow and remains above 8ft through late Saturday.

Tomorrow will be a dry day with less wind. It’s going to be a cool start in the upper 20’s/low 30’s. We will see some sun and clouds and highs will be in the mid/high 30’s. The weekend will remain mostly dry, from the mid to late 40s it will be milder. We’ll bring in an opportunity for a late sprinkle on Sunday.

Luckily we were able to get some snow in the wintry mix at the ski resorts overnight. This weekend we have a few opportunities to add some more snow. First, a low pressure system tracks through Canada, bringing the possibility of snow showers in far north Vermont and New Hampshire Saturday afternoon. There’s a better shot for the snowy Sunday as a system travels west through New York. That could put a quick 1-3″ for Maine and northern Vermont and New Hampshire.

Looking ahead, the chance of late Tuesday through Wednesday snow showers returns. We are trending cooler towards the end of the 7-day forecast. The Climate Prediction Center puts us in the 40-60% bracket for below average temperatures for the next 6-10 days.
