Race against time to find the lost Titanic submarine with five crew members on board | British News

The identities of all five crew members aboard the missing submersible near the site of the Titanic wreck have now been confirmed.
Rescue teams face a desperate race against time as the search continues for the tourist ship Titan after it disappeared from the Atlantic on Sunday.
According to ship operator OceanGate Expeditions, there is a maximum of 96 hours of oxygen supply for emergencies, leaving only about two days of “life support.”
Also on board the vessel is British billionaire Hamish Harding, who plans to visit the famous shipwreck some 435km south of Newfoundland, Canada.
According to Sky News, the company’s CEO and founder, Stockton Rush, and French dive pilot Paul-Henry Nargeolet will also be on board.
Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman also took the submarine to the depths of the ocean, their family has now confirmed.
A major search and rescue operation led by the US Coast Guard and involving military aircraft is underway 900 miles east of Cape Cod.
OceanGate Expeditions said its focus is on the people aboard the ship and their families.
“We are deeply grateful for the extensive support we have received from multiple government agencies and deepwater companies in our efforts to re-establish contact with the submersible,” the company said in a statement.
“We are working on the safe return of crew members.”
The US Coast Guard said Canadian research vessel Polar Prince and Rescue Squadron 106 would continue to conduct surface searches, while the US Coast Guard dispatched two C-130 flights to search for the missing submersible.
Rear Admiral John W. Mauger of the US Coast Guard said they were “doing everything they can to find the submersible” and said it had a pilot and four mission specialists on board.
Yesterday he said: “We expect it will take between 70 and 96 hours on Monday.”
“It’s a remote area and challenging, but we’re using every means available to ensure we can locate the ship and rescue those on board.”
Mark Butler, Managing Director of Action Aviation added: “There is still plenty of time to enable a rescue mission, there is survival equipment on board in this case.” We all hope and pray he returns safe and sound.”
Here’s a look at all five men aboard the missing Titan submersible.
Hamish Harding
Hamish Harding is chairman of private aircraft company Action Aviation, which said he is one of the mission specialists on the five-person OceanGate expedition ship, which was reported overdue Sunday night.
Mr Harding holds three Guinness World Records, including the longest full-sea depth dive with a manned vessel when he dived to the shallowest depth of the Mariana Trench alongside oceanographer Victor Vescovo in March 2021. In June 2022, he flew into space on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.
His cousin, Kathleen Cosnett, told the Daily Telegraph she considered Mr Harding “daring” and “curious” and that she was “devastated” to learn he was missing.
Over the weekend, he said on social media he was “proud to finally be able to announce” he’ll be on board the mission to the wreck of the Titanic, the luxury ocean liner that struck an iceberg and sank in 1912, with more when 1,500 people lost their lives.
The Explorer’s Club, of which Mr Harding is a founding member, shared the news of his disappearance on Instagram, with club president Richard Garriot saying, “When I saw Hamish last week… his enthusiasm for this expedition was palpable.”
“I know he was looking forward to doing his research on site.” “We all have every hope that the submersible will be located as soon as possible and that the crew will be safe.”
Stockton Rush
Stockton Rush is the CEO and Founder of OceanGate Inc, a company that provides manned diving services to enable researchers and explorers to access the ocean’s vast resources.
According to OceanGate’s website, he became the youngest jet transport pilot in the world when he received his DC-8 Type/Captain’s rating from the United Airlines Jet Training Institute in 1981 at the age of 19.
Speaking about the Titanic, he told Sky News earlier this year: “What really strikes you is how beautiful she is.”
“You don’t normally see that on a shipwreck. It’s an incredibly beautiful wreck.’
Paul Henry Nargeolet
French seaman Paul-Henry Nargeolet is one of the leading experts on the Titanic wreck and was confirmed to be on the submersible by Mr Harding in a social media post on Saturday.
He wrote: “The team on the submarine is made up of some legendary explorers, some of whom have conducted over 30 dives to the RMS Titanic since the 1980s, including PH Nargeolet.”
Born in Chamonix, France, he is considered the “leading authority” on the subject of Titanic. He is listed as Director of Underwater Research at E/M Group and RMS Titanic, Inc.
Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood
According to a biography published on his website, Shahzada Dawood, 48, is a trustee of the SETI Institute in California. According to the biography, he is Vice Chairman of Dawood Hercules Corporation, part of Dawood Group.
He is on the ship with his 19-year-old son Suleman and their family and said in a statement, “We are very grateful for the concern of our colleagues and friends and would like to ask everyone to pray for their safety while being granted privacy.” of the family at this time.
“As of now, contact with their dive boat has been lost and limited information is available.”
“A rescue operation, co-led by multiple government agencies and deep sea companies, is underway to re-establish contact with the sub and bring it back safely.”
“We are very grateful for the concern of our colleagues and friends and would like to ask everyone to pray for their safety while allowing the family privacy at this time.” The family are being well taken care of and are praying to Allah for the safe return of their family members. “
