A police officer caught filming children in a swimming pool changing room has been jailed.

Matthew Shaw, 38, has been jailed for 14 years after admitting a string of child abuse offenses.

He was reported to police after being caught filming a girl changing at a swimming pool at a Center Parcs in Nottinghamshire.

He was challenged by the girl’s mother after he passed a camera under a cubicle wall in a dressing room in April last year.

Shaw, who worked for Derbyshire Police, later admitted to officers that he may have done so about 100 times.

Shaw also spoke to girls between the ages of 11 and 15 while posing as both a teenager and asking for and sending sexual images and videos on Snapchat.

Officers seized several electronic devices, including a mobile phone, which was found hidden in the roof of his garage when they searched his home in Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottingham.

Further investigation uncovered additional videos recorded in dressing rooms and Shaw engaging in online sex acts with several children.

Shaw initially denied any wrongdoing, but later pleaded guilty to 21 counts of inducing a child to engage in sexual activity and three counts of voyeurism.

He was sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison today at Nottingham Crown Court.

Shaw was also placed on the sex offender registry and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order.

Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Scott of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Shaw is a sneaky and manipulative sex offender who is now beginning a well-deserved prison sentence.

“While he did not come into physical contact with his victims, he still did great harm to vulnerable young people, exposing them to things they were just too young to understand, let alone agree to.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of children and we will always take a firm stand against those who commit crimes of this nature.

“I’m delighted that Shaw has now been jailed and I hope this case will serve as a warning to others about the consequences of this type of behavior – sooner or later we’ll catch up to you, and you’ll likely end up in jail.”

Derbyshire Police Deputy Chief Constable Simon Blatchly said: “Matthew Shaw’s offenses are absolutely shocking.

“As soon as the allegations came to light, Shaw was suspended from his role as a community support police officer – and the force assisted fellow Nottinghamshire Police in their investigations.

“He then resigned from his position last year.

“Through this investigation, it was determined that none of Shaw’s crimes took place during his tenure – and no victims linked to his role were identified.

“While all officers and staff hold a position of trust, PCSOs have a unique role that brings them into contact with many different groups within our communities, including young people.

“His role and position of trust make his crimes all the more shocking to the public and I share their disgust at his actions.”
