Prosecutors: Father turned in son, attempted Burlington kidnapping suspect – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BURLINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) – A man charged in connection with an attempted kidnapping that was filmed on camera has been ordered to be held pending his dangerousness hearing.

Tyler Healey, 23, was charged Wednesday in Woburn Circuit Court with attempted kidnapping, assault with attempted rape, assault with intent to commit a felony and indecent assault and assault on a person over the age of 14.

Healey, who has ties to Newton and Waltham, was arrested in Winthrop on Tuesday and escorted to the Burlington Police Department in handcuffs after his father identified him as the suspect from pictures released by the DPW in the connection was wanted with an incident that occurred on the side of the Middlesex Turnpike on Sunday night, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors determined that police were able to connect Healey to the crime because police recognized the brightly colored, distinctive sneakers he was wearing in surveillance video. He is said to have worn them when he was arrested.

Officials launched an investigation after receiving an 911 call from a woman who said she was driving home from work when she believed she had dragged another woman on foot from a male suspect just before 8:30 p.m , said Burlington Police Commissioner Thomas Browne and Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

During the attack, Healey allegedly groped the victim and removed her shirt. Healey then fled on foot and climbed a fence at the building department after a Good Samaritan stopped to help the victim and called 911, according to investigators.

When she called 911, the victim confirmed that she did not know the suspect. Video of the attack showed her rushing to free herself. She was eventually able to escape and police found her arriving moments later.

“I really have to thank the victim in this case and the 911 caller,” Browne said. “The victim, as you must have seen in the video, fought the fight of her life.”

The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, told 7NEWS that she left work when she noticed him following her. She said she did her best to fight him off because she feared for her life. She suffered bumps and bruises, but was not seriously injured.

She added that she is now afraid to leave her apartment.

Investigators believe the attack was indiscriminate.

“I hope this serves as a wake-up call for all of us, including myself,” Browne said. “We must be vigilant. This was a crime of opportunity and we need to make sure we take those opportunities away from people like that.”

Healey will be called back to a court dangerousness hearing next week. He has other open cases in both Waltham and Framingham.

The incident is being further investigated.
