Private chef in the Hamptons shares what a workday looks like

TikToker and home cook Meredith (@wishbonekitchen) went viral this week after sharing a “Day in [her] Life as a private chef in the Hamptons.”

The Hamptons is an area of New York known for its beaches and wealth.

In TikTok, Meredith describes her entire work day, including the meals she prepared and the time it took to prepare them. After waking up at 6:45 am, her work day doesn’t end until around 11:00 pm, making her work day over 16 hours long – 17 hours if you include the time it took to edit her video. Meredith has over 360,000 followers on the platform.

Meredith’s TikTok sparked debate and discussion on the platform, garnering over 12.5 million views in just a few days.

Meals served include shakshuka, chocolate coconut overnight oats, skirt steak with chopped veggies and rice, a cheese board and more. In all cases, Meredith was invited to dine with her employers, for whom she says she worked for three years.

At first, TikTokers were amazed at the amount of effort that went into preparing each meal.

“I hope you get really well rewarded,” wrote one user. “That is a lot of work.”

“So people shouldn’t feel bad about not being able to work, take care of kids, cook and clean,” added another. “That alone is a full-time job!”

Others said they discovered a dream career through their video.

“I never thought I’d say this, but this IS my dream job,” claimed one user.

“It’s what I want to do,” agreed another.

However, as other commenters pointed out, the job requires a significant amount of work.

“Everyone says they want this job while Homegirl just described a 15 hour work day,” noted one commenter. In response, Meredith wrote, “Exactly my thoughts.”

Later, Meredith posted another video answering some frequently asked questions.

In summary, the original video showed her weekend schedule, which is similar to her holiday schedule. On the days between her shifts, she goes back into town to rest, work on her website, and develop new recipes.

Additionally, TikTokers have been amazed at how different their lives are compared to the rich.

“The ultra-rich really do live very different lives than we do,” shared one user.

“My FYP definitely doesn’t match my tax bracket,” agreed another.

The Daily Dot contacted Meredith via email.
