The world watched in awe Prince William and Princess Kate were married at Westminster Abbey in London on April 29, 2011, and years later, citizens are still in awe of the couple. From her royal engagements to her three beautiful children, Us weekly takes a look back at the duo’s relationship.
Although they only tied the knot in 2011, Kate and William first met 10 years earlier while studying history at Scotland’s University of St Andrews. The two would remain silent about their romance when they completed their education, but later had a high-profile breakup in 2007.
“I wasn’t very happy about it at the time, but it actually made me a stronger person,” Kate shared during a joint interview with William in November 2010. “You find out things about yourself that you might not have noticed. I think it can be pretty consuming in a relationship when you’re younger, and I treasured that time for myself too, although I didn’t think about it at the time.”
For his part, William explained the reasons behind his decision to part ways with Kate for a short time. “We tried very hard to find our own way and we grew up so it was just a little bit of space and it evolved for the better,” he said at the time.
The couple reconciled the following year and announced their engagement in November 2010. They are now the proud parents of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
William praised Kate’s approach to parenthood in November 2016. “It was quite a change for me personally. I’m very happy with the support I’m getting from Catherine. She’s a great mom and a fantastic wife,” he said Do you speak Viet Nam back then. “I fought sometimes. Going from being a single, independent man to being married with children is life-changing.”
Kate, meanwhile, detailed her hopes for her children in February 2020.
“Someone asked me the other day, ‘What would you like your kids to remember about their childhood?'” she explained during an appearance on the Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast. “And I thought that was a really good question, because if you really think about it, is it me sitting down and trying to do her math and spelling homework over the weekend? Or is it the fact that we went out and built a campfire and sat around trying to cook sausages which didn’t work because it was too wet? That’s what I want them to remember — those moments with me as a mom, but also the family going to the beach, getting soaking wet, filling our boots with water, that’s what I want them to remember recall. Not a stressful household where you try to do everything and fail at one thing.”
