Prince Harry has accused his brother William, the future King of England, of physically assaulting him at his home in 2019 when the two were falling out over his wife Meghan.
The extraordinary claim is contained in spare partthe younger prince’s much-anticipated memoir, due for release next week.
The publisher, Penguin Random House, did not provide advance copies ahead of its January 11 release in Australia (and January 10 in the UK). but The guardwhich released the details of the altercation, claims to have received a copy of what it calls a “remarkable book.”
According to the British newspaper, Harry writes that William has arrived at Nottingham Cottage – the house in the grounds of Kensington Palace that Harry and Meghan described as “small” with “really low ceilings” in their latest six-part Netflix series – to discuss “the whole rolling disaster” of the couple’s relationship with the British press.
The guard reports that in Harry’s version of events, William said he was there to “help,” but when Harry accused him of merely repeating press narrative about Meghan’s behavior, the two got into a heated exchange.
Neither William nor the palace have commented on the allegations at this time.
Harry reportedly writes that his brother called him names, “then he came up to me. Everything happened so fast. So very quickly. He grabbed my collar, broke my chain and threw me to the ground.
“I landed on the dog’s bowl, which broke under my back and the pieces cut into me. I lay there dazed for a moment, then got up and told him to get out.”
Shortly after leaving the cottage, William returned, writes Harry, “looking regretful and apologizing”.
