The Prince of Wales has apparently told people he doesn’t want the nation to ‘fight’ again after the anniversary.

He and his wife Camilla mingled with 450 other guests today at a luncheon at the Oval Cricket Ground, one of thousands of picnics and street parties held to mark the occasion.

Some of those Prince Charles spoke to have since described what they spoke about.

Sarah Friar, CEO of the neighborhood app Nextdoor, sat across from him at her table.

She said he seemed to be enjoying the celebrations as the nation comes together, telling her: “When it comes to Monday, are we going to get back to all the bickering? Let’s hope we don’t.’

Ms Friar, who lives near San Francisco but is originally from Ireland, said it was “a wonderful thought” for all of us.

She explained: “He ended up saying how great it was that everyone was getting together this weekend.

“We see it in neighbors, right? I come from a company called Nextdoor, so people come together and the best comes out.

“People who don’t know each other have fun.”

Saturday night’s concert at Buckingham Palace also came up for discussion, with Ms Friar saying Charles described it as “wonderful”.

Those invited to the Oval included people from various organisations, as well as local people and a group of 70 volunteers from the Royal Voluntary Service.

Gemma Snow of the Eden Project sat next to Charles and said he had spoken about “keeping this togetherness going”.

Local resident Sonia Wilson also chatted with the prince.

“He said, ‘I’m sorry to keep you from your lunch.’ I said, ‘Don’t worry, I had my jam sandwich,'” she said.

Ms Wilson said Charles laughed and replied: “That’s a good joke, isn’t it?”

Singer Elaine Paige, ambassador for the Royal Voluntary Service, met Charles and Camilla over lunch.

Afterwards, Paige said, “I think you’re having a wonderful time. Obviously it’s quite a schedule for all of them.

“But I think he seemed very relaxed and in good spirits, and I think his opening comment was – because it was only half past ten – ‘It’s a bit early for lunch.’

Discussing the Queen’s skit with Paddington Bear, she said: “I thought what a brilliant actress she is.”

She said the Queen had “perfect timing” and a “twinkle in her eye,” adding, “I think she’s just the best actor. it was brilliant Absolutely brilliant.’

Charles and Camilla were looking at a 20′ x 5′ Tea Party themed felt artwork by Lucy Sparrow when they arrived at the event at the cricket ground.

The piece will be on display in the Grand Entrance of Buckingham Palace later this year.
