Prince Andrew visits Queen every day to ‘make up for the shame he has brought on the family’

Prince Andrew has met with the Queen every day to undo the embarrassment caused by his abuse scandal.

The Duke of York is desperate to regain his reputation after paying his accuser Virginia Giuffre a huge sum before her lawsuit reached a jury.

He has driven five miles from his home at Royal Lodge to Windsor Castle for pre-lunch visits to check that his mother is “well and looking after her,” insiders say.

A royal source told The Mirror: “Andrew is doing everything he can to make amends for the shame he has caused his family for being involved in such a scandal.

“He wants to make amends with the Queen, so he’s doing everything he can to see her as much as possible.

“The rest of the family, apart from Her Majesty, agree that he should stay out of the limelight and remain silent after leaving such a stain on the family.”

Andrew, pictured with two companions for a horseback ride in Windsor Great Park yesterday, has not “disappeared from public life” as many expected.

The disgraced king, 62, is expected to join the Queen for the prestigious Garter Day ceremony at Windsor Castle next month.

Sources say he will attend “as a knight royal” and will also appear in next day’s court circular.

In the Garter Day procession, the Queen and Knights appear in rich velvet robes, glittering regalia and plumed hats.

It’s one of the most traditional ceremonies on the Queen’s calendar and there are now fears Andrew’s presence will overshadow it.

The Queen is Sovereign of the Order and appoints Knights of the Garter without the involvement of Ministers. This means that the appointment of her son Andrew was considered private.

Although Andrew has consistently maintained his innocence, he is said to have paid £12million to settle the civil suit in New York.

Ms Giuffre claimed she was forced to have sex with the Duke after being trafficked by his pedophile boyfriend Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 awaiting trial.

In January, Andrew was stripped of all honorary military titles, royal patronage and appointment as HRH – forcing Andrew to accept the lawsuit as a “private citizen”.
