Premier League appear to confirm £34m Arsenal signing | Soccer

Reports emerged late last week that the Gunners had agreed a £34million deal to sign the 22-year-old midfielder, who has been compared to Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and who provided 14 assists in the league last season.

While Arsenal are yet to confirm the move, Porto released a statement on Friday showing a transfer fee has been agreed.

“The club informs the market that they have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC to sign Fabio Vieira on a permanent basis for €40m,” read the statement.

Vieira is said to have flown to London on Thursday to undergo a medical and finalize a long-term deal with the Gunners.

Although Arsenal have yet to officially unveil their new man, there seems to be no reason for fans to get nervous about the deal going through.

As part of the transfer process, Arsenal are required to register signings with the Premier League, which may already have been done judging by the latest changes on the site.

Vieira is now listed on the Premier League website as part of the Arsenal squad, sandwiched between Charlie Patino and Nicolas Pepe, whilst also having his own individual player page with his club as Arsenal.

While it could simply be a case of the Premier League being hasty, all signs seem to point to Arsenal being on the verge of confirming their first major signing of the summer.

Mikel Arteta has already signed goalkeeper Matt Turner and young Brazilian forward Marquinhos, but Vieira is the first signing to be in contention for a first-team spot.

As well as signing the Portuguese youngster, Arsenal are also looking to sign a new striker – with City’s Gabriel Jesus at the top of their wish list – and have also been linked with Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez and Leeds winger Raphinha.
