Pregnant woman says barista assumed she didn’t want caffeine in drink

One woman tweeted about how a Starbucks barista mistakenly assumed she didn’t want caffeine in her drink and intentionally placed her order incorrectly. This set off a domino effect of people who are either pregnant or have been to share the absurd assumptions people have been making about their pregnancy.

It all started with a tweet thread by Madeline Odent (@oldenoughtosay). “Just now a Starbucks barista intentionally made my drink wrong because they ‘thought I didn’t want to order a frappe with coffee’ and it’s such a small thing but people really do treat pregnant bodies like public property,” she wrote, the first tweet. In the next two tweets, she says that by and large it doesn’t matter, but “God it’s ADEQUATE.”

She went on to say that she “got full of Karen” and had her remade her drink because she needs caffeine to “stay.” [her] blood pressure at a working level. A fact that is no one’s business but me and my midwife.” She ends the thread by saying people should mind their own business.

The tweet thread has garnered well over 12,000 likes since it was posted on the day, with many people sharing their pregnancy assumption horror stories in solidarity.

One person responded to the thread, saying, “Of course, constant caffeine control throughout both pregnancies, but my WTF moment was a co-worker who removed my fizzy water (literally just water! with bubbles!) and strictly handed me a cup of still water with ‘You have to think about the baby now.’”

Someone else replied to the thread with an interaction they had, writing, “When I was pregnant with #2 and someone said to my coffee cup, ‘I hope this is decaffeinated!’ I started saying, ‘No, but I’m cutting it with vodka, so it’s fine.'”

The Daily Dot reached out to Odent via a Twitter reply.
