Port Macquarie shark attack leaves man in critical condition

A man is in critical condition after being bitten by a shark in the north of the state on Friday morning.
The NSW Ambulance was called to Lighthouse Beach in Port Macquarie around 10am following reports of a shark attack.

Paramedics treated a 44-year-old man who had injuries to his lower leg and thigh.
He was transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Port Macquarie Hastings ALS lifeguards have posted on Facebook that Lighthouse Beach is closed “due to a shark incident”.
“The closure is likely to remain in place for at least 24 hours,” they wrote.
“A Surf Life Saving NSW drone will be in action to determine the size and species of the shark involved.
“We hope and pray for a happy ending for the victim.”
