Congress Chair Jitendra Singh will assess the post-election situation in Uttar Pradesh and propose changes, while in Uttarakhand Avinash Pandey has been asked to do so.
“The President of Congress has appointed executives to assess the post-election situation and propose organizational changes in the states (with input) from MLA candidates and key executives effective immediately,” the official statement said.
Congress fared poorly in the just-concluded general election, failing to win back any of the BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, and losing Punjab to the AAP.
The Congressional Working Committee had discussed the reasons for the election debacle and authorized Sonia Gandhi to initiate the necessary changes in those states after the brawl.
Gandhi Tuesday had called on the heads of his units in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur to tender their resignations.
