Police officer seriously injured in attack on east London balcony

Two police officers have been hospitalized after being confronted in an incident on an east London balcony.

Members of the Metropolitan Police were responding to reports of a man attempting to force his way into a property on the De Beauvoir Estate in Hackney.

The person who made the call said the person appeared to be suffering from some sort of mental health crisis.

Police say officers were then confronted on the property’s balcony, and both were taken to hospital not long after.

One was described as seriously injured, his colleague also requiring treatment

The man fled the scene, where a knife was also found.

Police are urgently trying to establish the man’s movements and whereabouts.

Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway, commander of the Basic Command Unit (BCU) for the Central East Area, said: “This incident is yet another example of the very real dangers our officers can face at any time when they ultimately work on this.” protect and serve our communities.

“It is totally unacceptable that officials who are doing their jobs and conducting reasonable and legitimate investigations should be attacked in this disgraceful way.

“We will ensure that both officers involved in this incident, who have shown great courage and professionalism, have the continued support they need and deserve.

“In the meantime, our investigators are conducting investigations to find the person responsible.”

It follows after Metro UK broke the news on Thursday that three prison officers were stabbed to death with a makeshift blade in an attack on HMP Belmarsh on Thursday.

Meanwhile, two weeks ago, an off-duty police officer was shot dead by masked men in Northern Ireland. The investigation into attempted murder continues.
