Police name a 22-year-old woman who died after being hit by a police car on Christmas Eve

Emergency services were called to the Kensington area of ​​Merseyside around 8.10pm last night to receive reports of the collision between a pedestrian and a police car.

Rachael’s family have now paid tribute to the “caring” and “beloved” 22-year-old.

In a statement, they said: “Rachael Louise Moore aged 22, cherished daughter of Alison and Ian, sister of Ben and much loved granddaughter of Nana Sue.

“Partner to Jack and caring friend to many.

“She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this devastating time.’

The Independent Bureau of Police Conduct (IOPC) was briefed and visited the scene, the force said.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, of Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Following the death of Rachael, we support IOPC who have launched an investigation into the circumstances of this incident.

“Our sincere thoughts and condolences go out to Rachael’s family who have been devastated by this tragic incident.

“Currently, they are supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

“I would like to ask everyone who witnessed this incident to get in touch with us as we try to piece the circumstances together.

“I would also like to ask anyone who has CCTV, dash cam or smart doorbell footage that could help us please get in touch. As usual, the incident was escalated to the IOPC. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time.’
