Police: Fatal crash follows ‘tactical pursuit’ in north St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — One person has died following an accident resulting from a “tactical pursuit” Wednesday afternoon in north St. Louis, police say.

The accident happened before 4 p.m. near the intersection of Theodosia Avenue and Arlington Avenue. Police have not identified the victim who died, but determined he was a man between the ages of 18 and 22.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department tells FOX 2 that the accident happened after a driver was pulled off by a detective with an anti-crime task force, prompting a pursuit. The suspect vehicle may have been stolen. A chase through many streets in north St. Louis ensued before the crash.

Investigators tell FOX 2 that up to five vehicles could have been involved in the collision. After the accident, the driver of the suspect vehicle drove away, but the passenger remained at the scene of the accident. According to police, one person died in one of the vehicles hit.

The St. Louis Police Department told FOX 2 that responding officers had installed barbed strips east of Page Street to Arlington Avenue. Additional information is limited, according to the STLMPD, but an investigation is ongoing.
