Police bodycam video shows a sex trafficker being chased ahead of Super Bowl LIV in Miami Beach

MIAMI – Miami Beach police on Tuesday released bodycam video of a chase that led to the arrest of a man convicted of sex trafficking a woman and a 17-year-old girl in Miami Beach.

Anthony Bernard Carter, then 28, was charged in September 2020.

Authorities said he trafficked the two victims in January 2020 in Atlanta before heading to South Florida for that year’s Super Bowl.

“Carter came to the attention of law enforcement after taking the[girl]to a hotel to meet with a client who was actually an undercover Miami Beach Police Department officer,” the Department of Justice said in a press release . “When law enforcement attempted to apprehend Carter upon his return to the hotel, he fled from law enforcement and nearly hit several pedestrians with the vehicle he was driving before abandoning it.”

In the video, you can hear the police say, “He jumped – he jumped. People on the boardwalk, 15th street, 16th street.”

CCTV broadcast to Local 10 News showed Carter speeding through a traffic light at an intersection, narrowly missing several pedestrians.

Police said Carter eventually crashed the car on 17th Street, east of Collins Avenue, and fled on foot.

“He jumped towards the beach, we don’t have a picture, we don’t have a picture, the vehicle went down,” said a videotaped officer.

Police later arrested Carter in Atlanta.

A federal jury found him guilty in July on multiple charges of sex trafficking.

A federal judge sentenced Carter to 25 years in prison.
