Police are investigating a dead man in a downtown shootout

Salt Lake City police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred downtown early Sunday, according to a press release.
Around 4 a.m., police received an 911 call about a person being shot in a parking lot between Pierpont Avenue and 300 South, west of West Temple.
When officers arrived at the “large and chaotic” crime scene, they found community members performing life-saving procedures on a man. Officers took over these efforts, but the man died at the scene.
Officials arrested two people for alleged interference in the investigation, the statement said.
Investigators are working to identify the shooter, the release said, and there have been no arrests in connection with the shooting. The shooting does not appear to have been accidental, police said, and there was no danger to the public.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting, including photos or video, to call 801-799-3000.
