The nation has come together to celebrate beyond the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend with events in London – and indeed parties across the UK celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s incredible 70th year on the throne.
Highlights so far have included the spectacular flyby watched by the Queen and other royals from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, not to mention the star-studded Platinum Jubilee concert where Her Majesty made a very special appearance with Paddington Bear.
As the celebrations reach their final day, one of the biggest events on the anniversary calendar is of course the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
The spectacle will take over the capital on Sunday, but when exactly can you expect it? And what kind of carnival floats and performances are expected?
Here’s everything you need to know about the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
What date and time is the Platinum Jubilee Pageant?
The Platinum Jubilee Pageant begins at Sunday 5 June at 2.30 p.m.
It lasts over two hours, travels through central London and ends at 5pm.
What is the schedule for the Platinum Jubilee Pageant?
If you’re hoping to see the anniversary competition in person, you’ll be happy to hear that a route has been announced.
According to the official website: “The pageant will start in Whitehall, turning under Admiralty Arch and then traveling up The Mall before ending in front of Buckingham Palace around the Queen Victoria Memorial.”
Members of the public can watch the pageant from viewing areas in Whitehall and along the Mall. Tickets are not required, although you should probably expect it to be incredibly crowded.
There will also be big screen TVs in Whitehall and The Mall and in St James’ Park.
What to Expect The Platinum Jubilee Pageant will be divided into four acts, each celebrating the Queen’s long reign.
They are as follows:
Act One: For Queen and Country – a military parade with soldiers from across the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Ghana, Belize, Sri Lanka and other Commonwealth countries.
Act Two: Time of Our Lives – an exhibition showing how life has changed since 1952 and over the Queen’s 70 years as monarch.
Third Act: Let’s celebrate – This act will feature dances, carnival processions, installations and creative performances from arts organizations such as Trigger (from Bristol), Bridgwater (from Somerset) and Shademakers (from the Isle of Wight). Mahogany from London will also reinvent the coronation in an Afro-Caribbean carnival style.
Act Four: Happy and Glorious – the final at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace. Here, icons from the music, comedy, film and art worlds will pay tribute to the Queen Ed Sheeran undoubtedly gives a special performance of his song Perfect.
How to watch the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on TV
Not only can you watch the anniversary competition on TV, it will also be difficult to avoid if you have the usual channels.
The whole thing will be broadcast on BBC One, ITV and Sky, along with live coverage on BBC iPlayer.
This is in addition to planned anniversary coverage on BBC One throughout the weekend, including Trooping the Color and Lighting the Beacons on Thursday 2 June.
On Saturday 4 June, the BBC Network will also broadcast the Platinum Party at the Palace concert.
