Royal spectators were left in the lurch when a woman appeared to nod off during Sunday’s spectacular platinum competition.
Viewers tuning in to the finale, celebrating the Queen’s historic 70-year reign, erupted to see the guest with his eyes closed and his head cocked to one side – just behind Prince Charles.
The Prince of Wales stood in the royal box to enjoy the celebrations as the hordes of performers filed by below.
But those watching at home were distracted by someone else sitting directly to his left on the screen.
Tash Crump, a marketing director, commented: “The woman who fell asleep behind Prince Charles, to the point where they had to change the camera angle, let us down, bless her!
“Sometimes you just need a nap.”
Another woman tweeted, saying: “Someone wake up this lady, she’s been asleep for the last 15 minutes.”
And a third, Amanda Burt, added: “Gosh, how embarrassed is this woman going to be when she realizes the world has noticed she fell asleep.”
William and Kate, accompanied by their children George, Louis and Charlotte, joined Charles and Camilla in the royal box.
Viewers were treated to a tender moment as the Prince of Wales comforted an uneasy Louis by lifting him up and placing him on his lap.
Showing their fun side, the royals in attendance giggled as Zara Tindall playfully stuck a flag in George’s ear.
They also joined the crowd to marvel at the Gold State Coach driving down the Mall with a hologram of the Queen beamed in the windows on the day of her coronation.
A cast of 6,000 performers paraded through the streets of central London, the procession avoiding the rain.
Attendees enjoyed a parade of hundreds of “national treasures” including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Sir Cliff Richard, with Ed Sheeran taking the stage at the end to sing.
