Pilot injured after a light plane crashed outside Bahia Honda State Park in Monroe County, authorities say

MONROE COUNTY, Florida. – A small plane crashed outside Bahia Honda State Park on the Gulf side off Horseshoe Key in Monroe County Saturday afternoon, a law enforcement source confirmed to Local 10 News.

According to authorities, one person was on board when the plane crashed.

Wildlife officials have arrived on the scene to help, according to Captain David Dipre of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Authorities said the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the US Coast Guard are investigating the crash.

“The lone male pilot was brought ashore by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, where he was airlifted to a Miami hospital via Trauma Star with non-life-threatening injuries,” the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
